1 Chronicles 28:2 - Easy To Read Version

2 King David stood up and said, “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. In my heart I wanted to build a place to keep the Box of the Lord’s Agreement. {\cf2\super [299]} I wanted to build a place that would be God’s footstool. {\cf2\super [300]} And I made the plans for building that house for God.

When Joseph arrived, someone told Israel, “Your son Joseph has come to see you.” Israel was very weak, but he tried hard and sat up in his bed.


“You remember that my father, King David, had to fight many wars all around him. So he was never able to build a temple to honor the Lord his God. King David was waiting until the Lord allowed him to defeat all his enemies.


God said, “Go and tell these things to my servant David: The Lord says, ‘David, you are not the person to build a house for me to live in.


“Solomon, I have worked hard making plans for building the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [238]} I have given 3,750 tons {\cf2\super [239]} of gold. And I have given about 37,500 tons {\cf2\super [240]} of silver. I have given so much bronze and iron that it can’t be weighed. And I have given wood and stone. Solomon, you can add to them.


Then David called for his son Solomon. David told Solomon to build the temple {\cf2\super [235]} for the Lord God of Israel.


David said to Solomon, “My son, I wanted to build a temple for the name of the Lord my God.


These are the men that David chose to take care of the music at the tent of the Lord’s house after the Box of the Agreement [52] was put there.


“My father David wanted to build a temple {\cf2\super [94]} for the name of the Lord God of Israel.


The Lord said to my master,\par “Sit by me at my right side,\par while I put your enemies\par under your control. {\cf2\super [572]} ”\par


\{The Lord said,\}\par “This will be my place forever and ever.\par I choose this to be the place\par where I will be.\par


David made a promise to the Lord.\par David made a special promise\par to the Mighty God of Jacob.\par


\{Lord,\} I will tell my brothers about you.\par I will praise you in the great assembly.\par


Praise the Lord our God,\par and worship his holy footstool. {\cf2\super [534]} \par


All the great things of Lebanon {\cf2\super [453]} \par will be given to you.\par People will bring pine trees, fir trees,\par and cypress trees to you.\par These trees will be used for lumber\par to make my holy place {\cf2\super [454]} more beautiful.\par This place is like a stool\par in front of my throne,\par And I will give it much honor.\par


This is what the Lord says,\par “The skies are my throne.\par The earth is my footstool.\par So do you think you can build\par a house for me?\par No! You can’t!\par Can you give me a place to rest?\par No! You can’t!\par


Look how the Lord has set\par the Daughter of Zion {\cf2\super [8]} under a cloud.\par He has thrown the glory of Israel\par from the sky to the ground.\par The Lord didn’t keep in mind that Israel was his footstool,\par on the day of his anger.\par


The voice from the temple said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [398]} this is the place with my throne and footstool. I will live in this place among the people of Israel forever. The family of Israel won’t ruin my holy name again. The kings and their people won’t bring shame to my name by doing sexual sins {\cf2\super [399]} or by burying the dead bodies of their kings in this place.


The servant that got five bags of money went quickly to invest the money. Those five bags of money earned five more.


Heaven is my throne.\par The earth is a place to rest my feet.\par What kind of house can you build for me?\par There is no place where I need to rest!\par


When that happens, then you must be sure to choose the king that the Lord chooses. The king over you must be one of your own people. You must not make a foreigner your king.


Then the king will not think that he is better than any of his own people. And he will not turn away from the law, but he will follow it exactly. Then that king and his descendants [112] will rule the kingdom of Israel a long time.
