And he gave counsel to the people, and appointed the singing men of the Lord, to praise him by their companies, and to go before the army, and with one voice to say: Give glory to the Lord, for his mercy endureth for ever.


And when they began to sing praises, the Lord turned their ambushments upon themselves: that is to say, of the children of Ammon, and of Moab, and of mount Seir, who were come out to fight against Juda; and they were slain.


Do good, O Lord, to those that are good, and to the upright of heart.


And shall be broken. Gripings and pains shall take hold of them: they shall be in pain as a woman in labour. Every one shall be amazed at his neighbour: their countenances shall be as faces burnt.


As he yet spoke, behold Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the ancients of the people.


In that same hour Jesus said to the multitudes: You are come out as it were to a robber with swords and clubs to apprehend me. I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you laid not hands on me.


And the whole city was in an uproar: and the people ran together. And taking Paul, they drew him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut.


But we had in ourselves the answer of death, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead.
