For how shall we be able to know, I and thy people, that we have found grace in thy sight, unless thou walk with us: that we may be glorified by all people that dwell upon the earth?


He that hath a mind to depart from a friend seeketh occasions: he shall ever be subject to reproach.


And they answered: We will not drink wine, because Jonadab, the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying: You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your children, for ever:


You shall be holy unto me, because I the Lord am holy: and I have separated you from other people, that you should be mine.


Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: The man that shall have made a vow, and promised his soul to God, shall give the price according to estimation.


If any man make a vow to the Lord, or bind himself by an oath: he shall not make his word void but shall fulfil all that he promised.


And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:


For he shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

Then opening the truth of the thing, he said to her: The razor hath never come upon my head; for I am a Nazarite, that is to say, consecrated to God from my mother's womb. If my head be shaven, my strength shall depart from me, and I shall become weak, and shall be like other men.


Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord. All the days of his life he shall be lent to the Lord. And they adored the Lord there. And Anna prayed, and said:
