In the Lord I put my trust: how then do you say to my soul, Get thee away from hence to the mountain like a sparrow?


I will rejoice in thy salvation: the Gentiles have stuck fast in the destruction which they have prepared. Their foot hath been taken in the very snare which they hid.


The simplicity of the just shall guide them: and the deceitfulness of the wicked shall destroy them.


The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.


I saw the tents of Ethiopia for their iniquity, the curtains of the land of Madian shall be troubled.


He answered: Balac, the son of Sephor, king of the Moabites, hath sent to me,


He said to the elders of Madian: So will this people destroy all that dwell in our borders, as the ox is wont to eat the grass to the very roots. Now he was at that time king in Moab.


He sent therefore messengers to Balaam, the son of Beor, a soothsayer, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, and to say: Behold, a people is come out of Egypt, that hath covered the face of the earth, sitting over against me.


Who can count the dust of Jacob, and know the number of the stock of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the just; and my last end be like to them.


But yet going to my people, I will give thee counsel, what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.


And Balaam rose, and returned to his place. Balac also returned the way that he came.


And the Madianite woman, that was slain with him, was called Cozbi, the daughter of Sur, a most noble prince among the Madianites.


Because they also have acted like enemies against you, and have guilefully deceived you by the idol Phogor, and Cozbi their sister, a daughter of a prince of Madian, who was slain in the day the plague for the sacrilege of Phogor.


Are not these they, that deceived the children of Israel, by the counsel of Balaam, and made you transgress against the Lord by the sin of Phogor, for which also the people was punished?


And they took their women, and their children captives, and all their cattle, and all their goods: and all their possessions they plundered.


Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity,


Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain: and after the error of Balaam they have for reward poured out themselves, and have perished in the contradiction of Core.


And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet, who wrought signs before him, wherewith he seduced them who received the character of the beast, and who adored his image. These two were cast alive into the pool of fire, burning with brimstone.


But I have against thee a few things: because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat, and to commit fornication:
