And when he was gone forth into the way, a certain man running up and kneeling before him, asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting?


But he answering, saith to them: What did Moses command you?


And there came one of the scribes that had heard them reasoning together, and seeing that he had answered them well, asked him which was the first commandment of all.


For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them.


But he said to him: What is written in the law? how readest thou?


And a certain ruler asked him, saying: Good master, what shall I do to possess everlasting life?


But the Pharisees and the lawyers despised the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him.


And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.


For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise. But God gave it to Abraham by promise.
