Now when Esdras was thus praying, and beseeching, and weeping, and lying before the temple of God, there was gathered to him of Israel an exceeding great assembly of men and women and children: and the people wept with much lamentation.


Then Esdras the priest brought the law before the multitude of men and women, and all those that could understand, in the first day of the seventh month.


And he read it plainly in the street that was before the water gate, from the morning until midday, before the men, and the women, and all those that could understand: and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book.


And a mixed multitude without number went up also with them, sheep and herds and beasts of divers kinds, exceeding many.


Thus saith the Lord: Stand in the court of the house of the Lord and speak to all the cities of Juda, out of which they come to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words which I have commanded thee to speak unto them: leave not out one word.


Gather together the people, sanctify the church, assemble the ancients, gather together the little ones, and them that suck at the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth from his bed, and the bride out of her bride chamber.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts: In those days, wherein ten men of all languages of the Gentiles shall take hold, and shall hold fast the shirt of one that is a Jew, saying: We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.


Whom when Jesus saw, he was much displeased, and saith to them: Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.


For I have not spared to declare unto you all the counsel of God.


And the days being expired, departing we went forward, they all bringing us on our way, with their wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and we prayed.


You all stand this day before the Lord your God, your princes, and tribes, and ancients, and doctors, all the people of Israel:


Your children and your wives, and the stranger that abideth with thee in the camp: besides the hewers of wood, and them that bring water:


Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and fulfil them: that you may understand all that you do.


And the people being all assembled together, both men and women, children and strangers, that are within thy gates: that hearing they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and keep, and fulfil all the words of this law:


You shall not add to the word that I speak to you: neither shall you take away from it. Keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
