And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Seba, the son of Bochri, a man of Jemini. And he sounded the trumpet, and said: We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai. Return to thy dwellings, O Israel.


Then the people, seeing that the king would not hearken to them, answered him, saying: What portion have we in David? Or what inheritance in the son of Isai? Go home to thy dwellings, O Israel. Now David, look to thy own house. So Israel departed to their dwellings.


And the Lord shall give up Israel for the sins of Jeroboam, who hath sinned, and made Israel to sin.


Because of the sin of Jeroboam, which he had sinned, and wherewith he had made Israel to sin, and for the offence, wherewith he provoked the Lord the God of Israel.


And I answered them and said to them: The God of heaven he helpeth us, and we are his servants. Let us rise up and build: but you have no part, nor justice, nor remembrance in Jerusalem.


Perfect thou my goings in thy paths: that my footsteps be not moved.


Thou hast no part nor lot in this matter. For thy heart is not right in the sight of God.


And not rather with this thought and design, that we should say: To-morrow your children will say to our children: What have you to do with the Lord the God of Israel?


And said: Let us build us an altar, not for holocausts, nor to offer victims,


But for a testimony between us and you, and our posterity and yours, that we may serve the Lord, and that we may have a right to offer both holocausts, and victims and sacrifices of peace-offerings. And that your children to-morrow may not say to our children: You have no part in the Lord.


Now therefore hear, I pray thee, my lord the king, the words of thy servant: If the Lord stir thee up against me, let him accept of sacrifice. But if the sons of men, they are cursed in the sight of the Lord, who have cast me out this day, that I should not dwell in the inheritance of the Lord, saying: Go, serve strange gods.
