And David said to Abisai: Now will Seba the son of Bochri do us more harm than did Absalom. Take thou therefore the servants of thy lord, and pursue after him, lest he find fenced cities, and escape us.


With expectation I have waited for the Lord, and he was attentive to me.


Sit thou silent and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called the lady of kingdoms.


We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness, the iniquities of our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.


If our iniquities have testified against us, O Lord, do thou it for thy name's sake, for our rebellions are many: we have sinned against thee.


Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts to the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood and I will give them gall to drink: for from the prophets of Jerusalem corruption is gone forth into all the land.


We shall sleep in our confusion, and our shame shall cover us, because we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers from our youth even to this day: and we have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord our God.


But when Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came up to our land, we said: Come, let us go into Jerusalem, from the face of the army of the Chaldeans and from the face of the army of Syria: and we have remained in Jerusalem.


But they have gone after the perverseness of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them.


Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood and give them water of gall to drink.


Zain. Remember my poverty and transgression, the wormwood and the gall.


And Moses said to Aaron: This is what the Lord hath spoken. I will be sanctified in them that approach to me: and I will be glorified in the sight of all the people. And when Aaron heard this, he held his peace.


And a man's kinsman shall take him up, and shall burn him, that he may carry the bones out of the house; and he shall say to him that is in the inner rooms of the house: Is there yet any with thee?


But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.


Let all flesh be silent at the presence of the Lord: for he is risen up out of his holy habitation.


And they gave him wine to drink mingled with gall. And when he had tasted, he would not drink.


Lest perhaps there should be among you a man or a woman, a family or a tribe, whose heart is turned away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations: and there should be among you a root bringing forth gall and bitterness.


Their vines are of the vineyard of Sodom, and of the suburbs of Gomorrha: their grapes are grapes of gall, and their clusters most bitter.
