And he made his son pass through fire. And he used divination, and observed omens, and appointed pythons, and multiplied soothsayers to do evil before the Lord, and to provoke him.


And for the innocent blood that he shed, filling Jerusalem with innocent blood. And therefore the Lord would not be appeased.


And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease.


Touch not the bounds of little ones: and enter not into the field of the fatherless:


Their feet run to evil and make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are unprofitable thoughts. Wasting and destruction are in their ways.


This wicked people, that will not hear my words and that walk in the perverseness of their heart and have gone after strange gods to serve them and to adore them: and they shall be as this girdle which is fit for no use.


Because they have forsaken me and have profaned this place and have sacrificed therein to strange gods, whom neither they nor their fathers knew, nor the kings of Juda. And they have filled this place with the blood of innocents.


In vain have I struck your children: they have not received correction. Your sword hath devoured your prophets: your generation is like a ravaging lion.


And in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor and innocent? Not in ditches have I found them, but in all places which I mentioned before.


But know ye and understand, that if you put me to death, you will shed innocent blood against your own selves and against this city and the inhabitants thereof. For in truth the Lord sent me to you, to speak all these words in your hearing.


And they brought Urias out of Egypt: and brought him to king Joakim: and he slew him with the sword: and he cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.


And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way and make your ways good, and follow not strange gods nor worship them: and you shall dwell in the land: which I gave you and your fathers. And you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.


They are grown gross and fat: and have most wickedly transgressed my words. They have not judged the cause of the widow, they have not managed the cause of the fatherless, they have not judged the judgement of the poor.


For if you will order well your ways and your doings: if you will execute judgement between a man and his neighbor;


To steal, to murder, to commit adultery, to swear falsely, to offer to Baalim, and to go after strange gods, which you know not.


Mem. For the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.


And hath not eaten upon the mountains nor lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel: and hath not defiled his neighbour's wife, nor come near to a menstruous woman:


They have abused father and mother in thee: they have oppressed the stranger in the midst of thee: they have grieved the fatherless and widow in thee.


If a stranger dwell in your land, and abide among you, do not upbraid him:


Do not afflict your countrymen: but let every one fear his God. Because I am the Lord your God.


And I will come to you in judgment, and will be a speedy witness against sorcerers, and adulterers, and false swearers, and them that oppress the hireling in his wages; the widows, and the fatherless: and oppress the stranger, and have not feared me, saith the Lord of hosts.


And the whole people answering, said: His blood be upon us and our children.


Saying: I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. But they said: What is that to us? look thou to it.


A curse, if you obey not the commandments of the Lord your God, but revolt from the way which now I shew you, and walk after strange gods which you know not.


Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger nor of the fatherless: neither shalt thou take away the widow's raiment for a pledge.


Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, of the fatherless and the widow. And all the people shall say: Amen.


But if thou forget the Lord thy God, and follow strange gods, and serve and adore them: behold, now I foretell thee that thou shalt utterly perish.


Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.
