And Sedecias the son of Chanaana made himself horns of iron, and said: Thus saith the Lord: With these shalt thou push Syria, till thou destroy it.


And they rejected his ordinances and the covenant that he made with their fathers, and the testimonies which he testified against them. And they followed vanities, and acted vainly. And they followed the nations that were round about them, concerning which the Lord had commanded them that they should not do as they did.


So the king of Israel gathered together of the prophets four hundred men. And he said to them: Shall we go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall we forbear? But they said: Go up, and God will deliver it into the king's hand.


Cease not, O my son, to hear instruction, and be not ignorant of the words of knowledge.


And the Lord said to me: The prophets prophesy falsely in my name. I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, nor have I spoken to them: they prophesy unto you a lying vision and divination and deceit and the seduction of their own heart.


Thus saith the Lord: What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me and have walked after vanity and are become vain?


I did not send prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.


How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies and that prophesy the delusions of their own heart?


Because they have acted folly in Israel and have committed adultery with the wives of their friends and have spoken lying words in my name, which I commanded them not. I am the judge and the witness, saith the Lord.


For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you and your diviners deceive you, and give no heed to your dreams which you dream:


Who is the wise man, that may understand this, and to whom the word of the mouth of the Lord may come that he may declare this, why the land hath perished and is burnt up like a wilderness which none passeth through?


Hear therefore, ye women, the word of the Lord, and let your ears receive the word of his mouth: and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighboor mourning.


Teth. Her gates are sunk into the ground: he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more, and her prophets have found no vision from the Lord.


Even the prophets of Israel that prophesy to Jerusalem and that see visions of peace for her: and there is no peace, saith the Lord God.


Therefore you shall not see vain things, nor divine divinations any more: and I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord.


Thus saith the Lord God: Woe to the foolish prophets that follow their own spirit, and see nothing.


They see vain things, and they foretell lies, saying: The Lord saith: whereas the Lord hath not sent them. And they have persisted to confirm what they have said.


And her prophets have daubed them without tempering the mortar, seeing vain things and divining lies unto them, saying: Thus saith the Lord God: when the Lord hath not spoken.


Would God I were not a man that hath the spirit, and that I rather spoke a lie: I will let drop to thee of wine, and of drunkenness: and it shall be this people upon whom it shall drop.


Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.


Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks; but became vain in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened.


Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
