And they took the bullock which he gave them, and dressed it. And they called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying: O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered: and they leaped over the altar that they had made.


Wherefore the Lord, being angry against Amasias, sent a prophet to him, to say to him: Why hast thou adored gods that have not delivered their own people out of thy hand?


And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is wearied on his high places, that he shall go in to his sanctuaries to pray, and shall not prevail.


Assemble yourselves, and come, and draw near together, ye that are saved of the Gentiles. They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven work and pray to a god that cannot save.


BEL is broken: Nebo is destroyed. Their idols are put upon beasts and cattle, your burdens of heavy weight even unto weariness.


They bear him on their shoulders and carry him and set him in his place: and he shall stand and shall not stir out of his place. Yea, when they shall cry also unto him, he shall not hear: he shall not save them from tribulation.


Every man is become a fool for knowledge, every artist is confounded in his graven idol: for what he hath cast is false, and there is no spirit in them.


Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.


You know that when you were heathens, you went to dumb idols, according as you were led.


But as for the meats that are sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.


And there you shall serve gods, that were framed with men's hands: wood and stone, that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
