But hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, imitating the fornication of the house of Achab: moreover also thou hast killed thy brethren, the house of thy father, better men than thyself:


Then they were brought to be few: and they were afflicted through the trouble of evils and sorrow.


For my people have done two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and have digged to themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.


Of old time thou hast broken my yoke, thou hast burst my bands, and thou saidst: I will not serve. For on every high hill and under every green, tree thou didst prostitute thyself.


How canst thou say: I am not polluted, and I have not walked after Baalim? See thy ways in the valley, know what thou hast done: as a swift runner pursuing his course.


And by the facility of her fornication she defiled the land and played the harlot with stones and with stocks.


And they that are saved of you shall remember me amongst the nations to which they are carried captives: because I have broken their heart that was faithless and revolted from me and their eyes that went afornicating after their idols: and they shall be displeased with themselves because of the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.


And she shall follow after her lovers, and shall not overtake them: and she shall seek them, and shall not find, and she shall say: I will go, and return to my first husband, because it was better with me then, than now.


And the Lord said to me: Go yet again, and love a woman beloved of her friend, and an adulteress: as the Lord loveth the children of Israel, and they look to strange gods, and love the husks of the grapes.


I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now Ephraim hath committed fornication, Israel is defiled.

Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls, having their heart exercised with covetousness, children of malediction:


And on her forehead a name was written: A mystery; Babylon the great, the mother of the fornications, and the abominations of the earth.
