When Juda saw her, he thought she was a harlot: for she had covered her face, lest she should be known.


He said: I will send thee a kid out of the flock. And when she said again: I will suffer what thou wilt, if thou give a pledge, till thou send what thou promisest.


And when she had presented him the meat, he took hold of her, and said: Come lie with me, my sister.


Gifts are given to all harlots: but thou hast given hire to all thy lovers, and thou hast given them gifts to come to thee from every side, to commit fornication with thee.


And said to them: What will you give me, and I will deliver him unto you? But they appointed him thirty pieces of silver.


Thou shalt not offer the hire of a strumpet, nor the price of a dog, in the house of the Lord thy God, whatsoever it be that thou hast vowed: because both these are an abomination to the Lord thy God.


For the desire of money is the root of all evils; which some coveting have erred from the faith, and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.
