Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, saying in his heart: Shall a son, thinkest thou, be born to him that is a hundred years old? And shall Sara that is ninety years old bring forth?


And God said to Abraham: Sara, thy wife, shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him for a perpetual covenant, and with his seed after him.


Abraham took this grievously for his son.


When thou shalt till it, it shall not yield to thee its fruit: a fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be upon the earth.


Behold, thou dost cast me out this day from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from thy face, and I shall be a vagabond and a fugitive on the earth: everyone, therefore, that findeth me, shall kill me.


Offer up the sacrifice of justice, and trust in the Lord: many say, Who sheweth us good things?


Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope thou in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God.


But your iniquities have divided between you and your God: and your sins have hid his face from you that he should not hear.


And I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me all days: and that it may be well with them and with their children after them.


For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are far off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call.
