And the men of Juda came, and anointed David there, to be king over the house of Juda. And it was told David, that the men of Jabes Galaad had buried Saul.


Let your hands be strengthened; and be ye men of valour: for although your master Saul be dead, yet the house of Juda hath anointed me to be their king.


And Abner said to David: I will rise, that I may gather all Israel unto thee my lord the king, and may enter into a league with thee, and that thou mayst reign over all, as thy soul desireth. Now when David had brought Abner on his way, and he was gone in peace,


And let Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. And you shall sound the trumpet, and shall say: God save king Solomon.


And Joiada made a covenant between the Lord, and the king, and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.


Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh.


So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron: and David made a covenant with them before the Lord. And they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.


But the Lord God of Israel chose me of all the house of my father, to be king over Israel for ever. For of Juda he chose the princes: and of the house of Juda, my father's house: and among the sons of my father, it pleased him to choose me king over all Israel.


And Joiada made a covenant between himself and all the people, and the king, that they should be the people of the Lord.


And because of all this we ourselves make a covenant, and write it: and our princes, our Levites, and our priests sign it.


Go, gather together the ancients of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared to me, saying: Visiting I have visited you, and I have seen all that hath befallen you in Egypt.


He went up also with all Israel from Eglon to Hebron, and fought against it:


Jephte therefore went with the princes of Galaad; and all the people made him their prince. And Jephte spoke all his words before the Lord in Maspha.


And all the people went to Galgal. And there they made Saul king before the Lord in Galgal; and they sacrificed there victims of peace before the Lord. And there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced exceedingly


Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. And the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward: and Samuel rose up, and went to Ramatha.


And the two made a covenant before the Lord. And David abode in the wood: but Jonathan returned to his house.
