And David said to the messenger: Thus shalt thou say to Joab: Let not this thing discourage thee; Encourage thy warriors against the city: and exhort them that thou mayest overthrow it.


And Abner said to Joab: Let the young men rise, and play before us. And Joab answered: Let them rise.


And every one, catching his fellow, by the head, thrust his sword into the side of his adversary: and they fell down together. And the name of the place was called: The field of the valiant, in Gabaon.


And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together to Abner: and being joined in one body they stood on the top of a hill.


And Joab said: As the Lord liveth, if thou hadst spoke sooner, even in the morning the people should have retired from pursuing after their brethren.


How long will you throw out words? Understand first, and so let us speak.


How long do you afflict my soul, and break me in pieces with words?


When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me. Have mercy on me: and hear my prayer.


The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.


But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
