Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:


How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, who didst rise in the morning? How art thou fallen to the earth, that didst wound the nations?


Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? And from time of old, that we may say: Thou art just? There is none that sheweth, nor that foretelleth, nor that heareth your words.


To the law rather, and to the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word, they shall not have the morning light.


The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: to them that dwelt in the region of the shadow of death, light is risen.


The people that sat in darkness, hath seen great light: and to them that sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up.


He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.


Search the scriptures, for you think in them to have life everlasting; and the same are they that give testimony of me.


Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.


That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well.


Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all eagerness, daily searching the scriptures, whether these things were so.


For if the word, spoken by angels, became steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward:


If then you fulfil the royal law, according to the scriptures, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; you do well.


Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and diligently searched, who prophesied of the grace to come in you.


He that believeth in the Son of God, hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son, maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.


Who have given testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church: whom thou shalt do well to bring forward on their way in a manner worthy of God.


As I also have received of my Father: and I will give him the morning star.


I Jesus have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star.
