Stopped up at that time all the wells, that the servants of his father Abraham had digged, filling them up with earth:


And he digged again other wells, which the servants of his father Abraham had digged, and which, after his death, the Palestines had of old stopped up. And he called them by the same names by which his father before had called them.


And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the earth. And he measured with two lines, one to put to death, and one to save alive: and Moab was made to serve David under tribute.


And you shall destroy every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall cut down every fruitful tree, and shall stop up all the springs of waters: and every goodly field you shall cover with stones.


And they went into the camp of Israel: but Israel rising up defeated Moab, who fled before them. And they being conquerors went and smote Moab.


And when the king of Moab saw this, to wit, that the enemies had prevailed, he took with him seven hundred men that drew the sword, to break in upon the king of Edom. But they could not.


He gathered together a very great multitude and they stopped up all the springs, and the brook, that ran through the midst of the land, saying: Lest the kings of the Assyrians should come, and find abundance of water.


THE burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, it is silent: because the wall of Moab is destroyed in the night, it is silent.


Wherefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for the brick wall.


Therefore shall Moab howl to Moab: every one shall howl. To them that rejoice upon the brick walls, tell ye their stripes.


Therefore will I lament for Moab and I will cry out to all Moab for the men of the brick wall that mourn.


Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes: and my heart shall sound like pipes for the men of the brick wall. Because he hath done more than he could, therefore they have perished.


And the Lord said to me: Fight not against the Moabites, neither go to battle against them. For I will not give thee any of their land, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot in possession.


And Abimelech assaulted the city all that day: and took it, and killed the inhabitants thereof: and demolished it, so that he sowed salt in it.
