And the king had heard the words of the law of the Lord: he rent his garments.


And Saphan the scribe came to the king, and brought him word again concerning that which he had commanded, and said: Thy servants have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and they have given it to be distributed to the workmen by the overseers of the works of the temple of the Lord.


Moreover Helcias the priest gave me this book. And he read it before the king.


And on that day they read in the book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And therein was found written, that the Ammonites and the Moabites should not come in to the church of God for ever.


And he read in the book of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last. And they kept the solemnity seven days, and in the eighth day a solemn assembly according to the manner.


My hand made all these things, and all these things were made, saith the Lord. But to whom shall I have respect, but to him that is poor and little and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my words?


Hear the word of the Lord, you that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you and cast you out for my name's sake have said: Let the Lord be glorified and we shall see in your joy. But they shall be confounded.


Say to the king and to the queen: Humble yourselves, sit down: for the crown of your glory is come down from your head.
