And Jacob having called together all his household, said: Cast away the strange gods that are among you, and be cleansed and change your garments.


Because he hath forsaken me, and hath adored Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chamos the god of Moab, and Moloch the god of the children of Ammon: and hath not walked in my ways, to do justice before me, and to keep my precepts, and judgments as did David his father.


And return to thee with all their heart, and all their soul, in the land of their enemies, to which they had been led captives: and pray to thee towards the way of their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, and of the city which thou hast chosen, and of the temple which I have built to thy name:


But fear the Lord your God: and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.


Moreover the altar also that was at Bethel, and the high place, which Jeroboam the son of Nabat, who made Israel to sin, had made: both the altar, and the high place he broke down and burnt, and reduced to powder, and burnt the grove.


Give therefore your hearts and your souls to seek the Lord your God. And arise, and build a sanctuary to the Lord God, that the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the vessels consecrated to the Lord, may be brought into the house, which is built to the name of the Lord.


And thou, my son Solomon, know the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart, and a willing mind. For the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the thoughts of minds. If thou seek him, thou shalt find him: but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

But yet he took not away the high places: and the people had not yet turned their heart to the Lord the God of their fathers.


To all them, who with their whole heart, seek the Lord the God of their fathers: and will not impute it to them that they are not sanctified.


It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue.


Let the wicked forsake his way and the unjust man his thoughts, and let him return to the Lord; and he will have mercy on him: and to our God, for he is bountiful to forgive.


And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God: because they shall return to me with their whole heart.


If so be, when the house of Juda shall hear all the evils that I purpose to do unto them, that they may return every man from his wicked way: and I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.


If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord, return to me: if thou wilt take away thy stumbling-blocks out of my sight, thou shalt not be moved.


Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Be converted and depart from your idols and turn away your faces from all your abominations.


Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed, and make to yourselves a new heart and a new spirit: and why will you die, O house of Israel?


Let Samaria perish, because she hath stirred up her God to bitterness: let them perish by the sword, let their little ones be dashed, and let the women with child be ripped up.


This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me.


Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written, The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.


No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.


And Jesus answering said to him: It is written: Thou shalt adore the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.


God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.


Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him only. To him thou shalt adhere; and shalt swear by his name.


Follow the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and hear his voice. Him you shall serve, and to him you shall cleave.


And when thou shalt seek there the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him: yet so, if thou seek him with all thy heart, and all the affliction of thy soul.


Take heed diligently lest thou forget the Lord, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and shalt serve him only: and thou shalt swear by his name.


And half Galaad, and Astaroth, and Edrai, cities of the kingdom of Og in Basan: to the children of Machir, the son of Manasses, to one half of the children of Machir according to their kindreds.


Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him with a perfect and most sincere heart. And put away the gods which your fathers served in Mesopotamia and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.


Now therefore, said he, put away strange gods from among you: and incline your hearts to the Lord the God of Israel.


And saying these things, they cast away out of their coasts all the idols of strange gods and served the Lord their God. And he was touched with their miseries.


But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines. And they left the Lord, and did not serve him.


And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served Baalim.


Forsaking him, and serving Baal and Astaroth.


And they put his armour in the temple of Astaroth: but his body they hung on the wall of Bethsan.
