But there also the herdsmen of Gerara strove against the herdsmen of Isaac, saying: It is our water. Wherefore he called the name of the well, on occasion of that which had happened, Calumny.


And over the herds that fed in Saron was Setrai, a Saronite. And over the oxen in the valleys, Saphat the son of Ali.


And over the sheep Jaziz, an Agarene. All these were the rulers of the substance of king David.


And he built towers in the wilderness, and dug many cisterns, for he had much cattle both in the plains, and in the waste of the desert. He had also vineyards and dressers of vines in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he was a man that loved husbandry.


And they come to thee, as if a people were coming in, and my people sit before thee: and hear thy words, and do them not: for they turn them into a song of their mouth, and their heart goeth after their covetousness.


No stranger shall eat of the sanctified things: a sojourner of the priests, or a hired servant, shall not eat of them.


But if she be a widow, or divorced, and having no children return to her father's house, she shall eat of her father's meats, as she was wont to do when she was a maid. No stranger hath leave to eat of them.


Thou shalt take also fine flour, and shalt bake twelve loaves thereof, two tenths shall be in every loaf.


Every sabbath they shall be changed before the Lord: being received of the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant:


Saying: When will the month be over, and we shall sell our wares: and the sabbath, and we shall open the corn: that we may lessen the measure, and increase the sicle, and may convey in deceitful balances,


This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me.


And, behold, Saul came, following oxen out of the field, and he said: What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Jabes.


And Saul, having his kingdom established over Israel, fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and Edom, and the kings of Soba, and the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he overcame.


And David said to Achimelech: Hast thou here at hand a spear, or a sword? for I brought not my own sword, nor my own weapons with me, for the king's business required haste.


And he consulted the Lord for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.


And David said to Abiathar: I knew that day when Doeg the Edomite was there that without doubt he would tell Saul. I have been the occasion of the death of all the souls of thy father's house.


And Doeg the Edomite who stood by, and was the chief among the servants of Saul, answering, said: I saw the son of Isai, in Nobe, with Achimelech the son of Achitob the priest.
