Moreover yesterday also and the day before, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that did lead out and bring in Israel. And the Lord said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.


And now, O Lord God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father. And I am but a child, and know not how to go out and come in.


And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd.


And they found not what to do to him: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.


And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him the same hour: but they feared the people, for they knew that he spoke this parable to them.


Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him a captain over a thousand men: and he went out and came in before the people.


And Saul saw that he was exceeding prudent, and began to beware of him.


And David went out to whatsoever business Saul sent him, and he behaved himself prudently. And Saul set him over the soldiers; and he was acceptable in the eyes of all the people, and especially in the eyes of Saul's servants.
