And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Seba, the son of Bochri, a man of Jemini. And he sounded the trumpet, and said: We have no part in David, nor inheritance in the son of Isai. Return to thy dwellings, O Israel.


Let seven men of his children be delivered unto us, that we may crucify them to the Lord in Gabaa of Saul, once the chosen of the Lord. And the king said: I will give them.


Heled the son of Baana, also a Netophathite, Ithai the son of Ribai of Gabaath of the children of Benjamin,


The men of Machmas, a hundred twenty-two.


And the children of Benjamin, from Geba, at Mechmas, and at Hai, and at Bethel, and in the villages thereof:


And Sela, Eleph and Jebus, which is Jerusalem, Gabaath and Cariath: fourteen cities, and their villages. This is the possession of the children of Benjamin by their families.


And Josue blessed them, and sent them away: and they returned to their dwellings.


His master answered him: I will not go into the town of another nation, who are not of the children of Israel, but I will pass over to Gabaa.


Saul also departed to his own house in Gabaa: and there went with him a part of the army, whose hearts God had touched.


After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is. And when thou shalt be come there into the city, thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place, with a psaltery and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp before them; and they shall be prophesying.


Saul was a child of one year when he began to reign, and he reigned two years over Israel.


And Samuel said to him: What hast thou done? Saul answered: Because I saw that the people slipt from me, and thou wast not come according to the days appointed, and the Philistines were gathered together in Machmas,


And Samuel arose and went up from Galgal to Gabaa of Benjamin. And the rest of the people went up after Saul, to meet the people who fought against them, going from Galgal to Gabaa in the hill of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people, that were found with him, about six hundred men.


And Saul and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, were in Gabaa of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Machmas.


And the army of the Philistines went out in order to advance further in Machmas.


The Philistines also were assembled to fight against Israel: thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a multitude of people besides, like the sand on the sea-shore for number. And going up they camped in Machmas at the east of Bethaven.


So they smote that day the Philistines from Machmas to Ailon. And the people were wearied exceedingly.


One rock stood out towards the north over against Machmas; and the other to the south over against Gabaa.


And there was a great war against the Philistines all the days of Saul. For whomsoever Saul saw to be a valiant man, and fit for war, he took him to himself.


And Samuel departed to Ramatha: but Saul went up to his house in Gabaa.


Saul therefore took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went out to seek after David, and his men, even upon the most craggy rocks, which are accessible only to wild goats.


And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.


And said: This will be the right of the king, that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and put them in his chariots, and will make them his horsemen, and his running footmen to run before his chariots.
