God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed.  Evening came and then morning: the sixth day.


When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him, saying, ‘I am God Almighty.  Live  in my presence and be blameless.


Is anything impossible for the Lord?  At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.’


On the seventh  day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested  on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.


Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust him and not be afraid, for the Lord, the  Lord  himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.’


Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion, for the Holy One of Israel  is among you in his greatness.’


For the Lord said to me: I will quietly look out from my place, like shimmering heat in sunshine, like a rain cloud in harvest heat.


Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah – this one who is splendid in his apparel, striding in his formidable  might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save.


He made his glorious strength available at the right hand of Moses, divided the water before them to make an eternal name for himself,


I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people. The sound of weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her.


For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counsellor,  Mighty God, Eternal Father,  Prince of Peace.


I will take delight in them to do what is good for them, and with all my heart and mind I will faithfully plant them in this land.


I will heal their apostasy; I will freely love them, for my anger will have turned from him.


Don’t be afraid, land; rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has done astonishing things.


The Lord has removed your punishment; he has turned back your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is among you; you need no longer fear harm.


The righteous Lord is in her; he does no wrong. He applies his justice morning by morning; he does not fail at dawn, yet the one who does wrong knows no shame.


If the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey,  and give it to us.


But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” ’


Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father.  Having loved his own who were in the world,  he loved them to the end.


‘I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.


‘Do not return a slave to his master when he has escaped from his master to you.


The Lord your God will make you prosper abundantly in all the work of your hands,  your offspring,  the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, the Lord will again delight in your prosperity, as he delighted in that of your ancestors,


Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede  for them.
