Nothing he owned remains in his tent. Burning sulphur  is scattered over his home.


Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. A fire unfanned by human hands will consume   him; it will feed on what is left in his tent.


He leans on his web, but it doesn’t stand firm. He grabs it, but it does not hold up.


Your enemies will be clothed with shame; the tent  of the wicked will no longer exist.


The Lord’s curse is on the household of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous;


Therefore a curse has consumed the earth, and its inhabitants have become guilty; the earth’s inhabitants have been burned, and only a few survive.


Like the shame of a thief when he is caught, so the house of Israel has been put to shame. They, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets


Cursing,  lying,  murder,   stealing, and adultery  are rampant; one act of bloodshed follows another.


For this reason the land mourns, and everyone who lives in it languishes, along with the wild animals  and the birds of the sky; even the fish of the sea disappear.


The people are incapable of doing right   – this is the  Lord’s declaration – those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.


Then he said to me, ‘This is the curse  that is going out over the whole land, for everyone who is a thief, contrary to what is written on one side, has gone unpunished,  and everyone who swears falsely, contrary to what is written on the other side, has gone unpunished.


Do not plot evil  in your hearts against your neighbour,  and do not love perjury,  for I hate all this’ #– #this is the Lord’s declaration.


‘I will come to you in judgement, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless; and against those who deny justice to the resident foreigner.  They do not fear me,’  says the Lord of Armies.


You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.


Do not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction like it. You are to abhor and detest it utterly because it is set apart for destruction.


This is how we will treat them: we will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we swore to them.’
