Don’t say, ‘I will avenge this evil! ’ Wait on the Lord,  and he will rescue you.


Don’t say, ‘I’ll do to him what he did to me; I’ll repay the man for what he has done.’


Therefore, this is what the Lord says: I am about to champion your cause and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her fountain run dry.


‘ “This is what the Lord God says: Because Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah  and incurred grievous guilt by taking revenge on them,


Do not take revenge  or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbour as yourself;  I am the Lord.


But I tell you, don’t resist   an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.


Bless those who persecute you;  bless and do not curse.


Do not repay anyone evil for evil.  Give careful thought to do what is honourable  in everyone’s eyes.


For it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For it is God’s servant, an avenger  that brings wrath on the one who does wrong.


and don’t give the devil an opportunity.


Vengeance and retribution belong to me.  , In time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly.’


Rejoice, you nations, concerning his people,  , for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries;  , he will purify his land and his people.


This means one must not transgress against and take advantage  of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offences, as we also previously told and warned you.


Alexander  the coppersmith did great harm to me. The Lord will repay him according to his works.
