When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying  before the God of the heavens.


Now when Job’s three friends #– #Eliphaz the Temanite,  Bildad the Shuhite,  and Zophar the Naamathite #– #heard about all this adversity that had happened to him, each of them came from his home. They met together to go and sympathise with him and comfort  him.


Have I not wept for those who have fallen on hard times? Has my soul not grieved for the needy?


a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;


Ebed-melech the Cushite called down to Jeremiah, ‘Place these old rags and clothes between your armpits and the ropes.’ Jeremiah did this.


If my head were a flowing spring, my eyes a fountain of tears, I would weep day and night over the slain of my dear   people.


Then her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her his great mercy,  and they rejoiced with her.


Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.


When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts,


So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it.


Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble,  and I do not burn with indignation?


I wrote this very thing so that when I came I wouldn’t have pain from those who ought to give me joy, because I am confident  about all of you that my joy will also be yours.


since he has been longing for all of you and was distressed because you heard that he was ill.


For this reason, I am very eager to send him so that you may rejoice again when you see him and I may be less anxious.


Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated,  as though you yourselves were suffering bodily.
