14 But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam,   who taught Balak to place a stumbling block   in front of the Israelites: to eat meat sacrificed to idols   and to commit sexual immorality.

He said, ‘Build it up, build it up, prepare the way, remove every obstacle from my people’s way.’


Therefore, this is what the  Lord  says: I am going to place stumbling blocks before these people; fathers and sons together will stumble over them; friends and neighbours will also perish.


Now if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and acts unjustly,  and I put a stumbling block in front of him, he will die.  If you did not warn him, he will die because of his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.


Because they ministered to the house of Israel before their idols and became a sinful stumbling block to them, therefore I swore an oath  against them’   #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #‘that they would bear the consequences of their iniquity.


Now I am going back to my people, but first, let me warn you what these people will do to your people in the future.’


‘Yet they are the ones who, at Balaam’s advice, incited the Israelites to unfaithfulness against the Lord in the Peor incident, so that the plague came against the Lord’s community.


Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings #– #Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian.  They also killed Balaam son of Beor  with the sword.


Woe to the world because of offences. For offences will inevitably come, but woe to that person by whom the offence comes.


that you abstain from food offered to idols, from blood, from eating anything that has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.  You will do well if you keep yourselves from these things. Farewell.’


With regard to the Gentiles who have believed, we have written a letter containing our decision that  they should keep themselves from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from what is strangled, and from sexual immorality.’


And David says, Let their table become a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a retribution to them.


Therefore, let us no longer judge one another.  Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister.


It is a good thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble.


Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works.  They stumbled over the stumbling stone.


but we preach Christ crucified,  a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.


But because sexual immorality is so common,  , each man should have sexual relations with his own wife,  and each woman should have sexual relations with her own husband.


Marriage is to be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.


Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab,  set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,


and A stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over.   , They stumble because they disobey the word; they were destined  for this.


They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path  and have followed the path of Balaam,  the son of Bosor,  who loved the wages of wickedness


Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain,  have plunged into Balaam’s error  for profit, and have perished in Korah’s rebellion.


But I have this against you: You tolerate the woman Jezebel,   who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and deceives my servants to commit sexual immorality and to eat meat sacrificed to idols.


But I have this against you: You have abandoned the love you had at first.


But the cowards, faithless,  detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars   #– #their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur,  which is the second death.’


Outside are the dogs,   the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practises falsehood.
