Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. And Esau determined in his heart, ‘The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.’


‘Your name will no longer be Jacob,’  he said. ‘It will be Israel  because you have struggled with God  and with men and have prevailed.’


But Esau ran to meet him, hugged him, threw his arms round him, and kissed him. Then they wept.


The terror of the Lord was on all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah,  so they didn’t fight against Jehoshaphat.


Then Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was quiet, for his God gave him rest on every side.


They also delivered the king’s edicts to the royal satraps and governors of the region west of the Euphrates,  so that they would support the people and the house of God.


And I will give these people such favour with the Egyptians that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.


Better a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.


Her ways are pleasant, and all her paths, peaceful.


The Lord said: Haven’t I set you loose for your own good? Haven’t I punished you in a time of trouble, in a time of distress with the enemy?


‘Take him and look after him. Don’t do him any harm, but do for him whatever he says.’


I will grant you compassion,  and he  will have compassion on you and allow you to return to your own soil.”


God had granted Daniel kindness and compassion from the chief eunuch,


What, then, are we to say about these things?  If God is for us, who is against us?


But I have received everything in full,  and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied,  having received from Epaphroditus  what you provided #– #a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing  to God.


so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work  and growing in the knowledge of God,


Children,  obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.


equip  you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.  , Amen.


Who then will harm you if you are devoted to what is good?


and receive whatever we ask from him because we keep his commands  and do what is pleasing in his sight.
