Numbers 4:15 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

15 ‘Aaron and his sons are to finish covering the holy objects and all their equipment whenever the camp is to move on. The Kohathites will come and carry them, but they are not to touch the holy objects or they will die.  These are the transportation duties of the Kohathites regarding the tent of meeting.

Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. They set the ark of God down, and Abiathar offered sacrifices  until the people had finished marching past.


When those carrying the ark of the Lord advanced six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.


All the elders  of Israel came, and the priests  picked up the ark.


Then the Levites carried the ark of God the way Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord: on their shoulders with the poles.


Then David said, ‘No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister before him for ever.’


Also, the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the equipment for its service’   #– #


Put boundaries for the people all around the mountain and say: Be careful that you don’t go up on the mountain or touch its base. Anyone who touches the mountain must be put to death.


The Lord instructed Moses, ‘Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the Lord; otherwise many of them will die.


The poles are to be inserted into the rings so that the poles are on two sides of the altar when it is carried.


He is to put the incense on the fire before the Lord, so that the cloud  of incense covers the mercy seat that is over the testimony,  or else he will die.


Appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, all its furnishings, and everything in it. They are to transport the tabernacle and all its articles, take care of it, and camp round it.


Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever it is to stop at a campsite, the Levites are to set it up. Any unauthorised  person who comes near it is to be put to death.


The Kohathites then set out, transporting the holy objects;  the tabernacle was to be set up before their arrival.


They are to perform duties for you and for the whole tent. They must not come near the sanctuary equipment or the altar; otherwise, both they and you will die.


Moses, Aaron, and his sons, who performed the duties of  the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites, camped in front of the tabernacle on the east,  in front of the tent of meeting towards the sunrise. Any unauthorised person who came near it was to be put to death.


and place all the equipment on it that they use in serving: the firepans, meat forks, shovels, and basins #– #all the equipment of the altar.  They are to spread a covering made of fine leather over it and insert its poles.  ,


Do this for them so that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy objects:  Aaron and his sons are to go in and assign each man his task and transportation duty.


The Kohathites are not to go in and look at the holy objects as they are covered  or they will die.’


But he did not give any to the Kohathites, since their responsibility was service related to the holy objects  carried on their shoulders.


Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the Lord’s covenant, and to all the elders of Israel.


The priests carrying the ark continued standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything was completed that the Lord had commanded Joshua to tell the people, in keeping with all that Moses had commanded Joshua. The people hurried across,


God struck down the people of Beth-shemesh because they looked inside the ark of the Lord.  , He struck down seventy persons.  The people mourned because the Lord struck them with a great slaughter.
