Then Haman described for them his glorious wealth and his many sons. He told them all how the king had honoured him and promoted him in rank over the other officials and the royal staff.


Harbona, one of the king’s eunuchs,  said, ‘There is a gallows twenty-three metres  tall at Haman’s house that he made for Mordecai,  who gave the report that saved  the king.’ The king said, ‘Hang him on it.’


They came to Balaam and said to him, ‘This is what Balak son of Zippor says: “Let nothing keep you from coming to me,


Balak asked Balaam, ‘Did I not send you an urgent summons? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I really not able to reward you? ’


Please come and put a curse on these people for me because they are more powerful than I am. I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that those you bless are blessed and those you curse are cursed.’


Now go to your home! I said I would reward you richly,  but look, the Lord has denied you a reward.’


So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.


For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will anyone give in exchange for his life?


‘You are to count seven weeks, counting the weeks from the time the sickle is first put to the standing corn.
