But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, “You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.” ’


He built an altar to the Lord there and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord was receptive to prayer for the land,  and the plague on Israel ended.


For the Lord our God burst out in anger against us because you Levites were not with us the first time, for we didn’t enquire of him about the proper procedures.’


So now, do not scoff, or your shackles will become stronger. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord God of Armies a decree of destruction for the whole land.


He warned the community, ‘Get away now from the tents of these wicked men. Don’t touch anything that belongs to them,  or you will be swept away because of all their sins.’


The Lord said to Aaron, ‘You, your sons, and your ancestral family  , will be responsible for iniquity against the sanctuary. You and your sons will be responsible for iniquity involving your priesthood.

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years until the whole generation that had done what was evil in the Lord’s sight was gone.


When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard.


But now, in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood  of Christ.
