Joab gave the king the total of the registration of the troops. There were eight hundred thousand valiant armed men  from Israel and five hundred thousand men from Judah.


The descendants of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 warriors who could serve  in the army #– #men who carried shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for war.


Then Amaziah gathered Judah and assembled them according to ancestral families,  according to commanders of thousands, and according to commanders of hundreds. He numbered those twenty years old or more  for all Judah and Benjamin. He found there to be three hundred thousand fit young men who could serve in the army, bearing spear and shield.


‘You are to observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread because on this very day I brought your military divisions out of the land of Egypt.  You must observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent statute.


Each man who is registered, twenty years old or more, must give this contribution to the Lord.
