So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for the horses, the flocks of sheep, the herds of cattle, and the donkeys. That year he provided them with food in exchange for all their livestock.


Then Elijah approached all the people and said, ‘How long will you waver between two opinions?  , If the Lord is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him.’  But the people didn’t answer him a word.


They feared the Lord but also served their idols. Still today, their children and grandchildren continue doing as their ancestors did.


‘ “As for you, house of Israel, this is what the Lord God says: Go and serve your idols, each of you. But afterwards you will surely listen to me, and you will no longer defile my holy name with your gifts and idols.

Then Jesus told him, ‘Go away,   Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’   ,


So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine?


No   servant can serve two masters, since either he will hate   one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.’


And I tell you, make friends   for yourselves by means of worldly wealth   , so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings.


For am I now trying to persuade people,  or God?  Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.


Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant  or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God,  who richly provides us with all things  to enjoy.


because Demas  has deserted me,  since he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica.  Crescens has gone to Galatia,  Titus  to Dalmatia.


You adulterous people!  Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility towards God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.


But if it doesn’t please you to worship the Lord, choose for yourselves today: Which will you worship #– #the gods your ancestors worshipped beyond the River Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living?  As for me and my family, we will worship the Lord.’


Samuel told them, ‘If you  are returning to the Lord   with all your heart,  get rid of the foreign gods  and the Ashtoreths that are among you, set your hearts on the Lord, and worship only him.  Then he will rescue you from the Philistines.’
