Benaiah son of Jehoiada  went up, struck down Joab, and put him to death. He was buried at his house in the wilderness.


‘Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has appeared,   but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.


As these men were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?


They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’


For John came to you in the way of righteousness,   and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.


Therefore produce fruit  consistent with  repentance.


‘The time   is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God   has come   near.   Repent   and believe   the good news! ’


As it is written in Isaiah  the prophet:  , See, I am sending my messenger   ahead of you; he will prepare your way.   ,,


And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,


After John’s messengers left, he began to speak to the crowds about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?


beginning from the baptism of John until the day he was taken up from us #– #from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of his resurrection.’


‘As you see, the Lord has kept me alive these forty-five years as he promised,  since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel was journeying in the wilderness. Here I am today, eighty-five years old.


The descendants of the Kenite, Moses’s father-in-law,  had gone up with the men of Judah from the City of Palms  , to the Wilderness of Judah, which was in the Negev of Arad.  They went to live among the people.
