‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs,   which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and every kind of impurity.


‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous,


They do everything   to be seen by others: They enlarge their phylacteries   and lengthen their tassels.   ,


And he told them, ‘You are the ones who justify   yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts.   For what is highly admired by people is revolting   in God’s sight.


Then the rest of the Jews  joined his hypocrisy,  so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.


But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the Lord sees,  for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.’
