From  then on Jesus began to point out to his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.


Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’


‘But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognise him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’


They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised up.’ And they were deeply distressed.


As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them,  ‘Don’t tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised   from the dead.’


Then many will fall away, betray one another, and hate one another.


And from that time he started looking for a good opportunity to betray him.


Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near.’


Then  he began to teach them that it was necessary for the Son of Man  to suffer many things and be rejected  by the elders,  chief priests, and scribes,  be killed, and rise  after three days.


Wasn’t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer   these things and enter into his glory? ’


He also said to them, ‘This is what is written:   The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day,


saying,  ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man   suffer many things   and be rejected   by the elders, chief priests, and scribes,   be killed, and be raised the third day.’


And they were all astonished at the greatness of God. While everyone was amazed at all the things he was doing,  he told his disciples,


Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute?  They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers  you have now become.


For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:  On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread,
