Ahaziah  had fallen through the latticed window of his upstairs room in Samaria  and was injured. So he sent messengers, instructing them, ‘Go and enquire of Baal-zebub,  , the god of Ekron,  whether I will recover from this injury.’


When the Pharisees heard this, they said, ‘This man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.’


And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? For this reason they will be your judges.


But the Pharisees said, ‘He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons.’


‘We are able,’ they told him. Jesus said to them, ‘You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptised with the baptism I am baptised with.


The scribes  who had come down from Jerusalem said, ‘He is possessed by Beelzebul,’  and, ‘He drives out  demons  by the ruler  of the demons.’


But some of them said, ‘He drives out demons by Beelzebul,  the ruler  of the demons.’


If Satan   also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom   stand? For you say I drive out demons by Beelzebul.


And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons   drive them out? For this reason they will be your judges.


Many of them were saying, ‘He has a demon  and he’s crazy. Why do you listen to him? ’


‘You have a demon! ’ the crowd responded. ‘Who is trying to kill you? ’


The Jews responded to him, ‘Aren’t we right in saying that you’re a Samaritan  and have a demon? ’


Then the Jews said, ‘Now we know you have a demon. Abraham died and so did the prophets. You say, “If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.”
