tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you.  But you were not like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what is right in my sight.


But since my servant Caleb has a different spirit and has remained loyal to me, I will bring him into the land where he has gone, and his descendants will inherit it.


And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.


Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.


As they were going out, they found a Cyrenian man named Simon. They forced him to carry his cross.


Looking at him, Jesus loved him  and said to him, ‘You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor,   and you will have treasure   in heaven.   Then come,   follow me.’


Summoning  the crowd again, he told them, ‘Listen to me, all of you, and understand:


‘Make every effort to enter through the narrow door,   because I tell you, many will try to enter and won’t be able to


In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce   all his possessions   cannot be my disciple.


When Jesus heard this, he told him, ‘You still lack one thing: Sell all you have and distribute it to the poor,   and you will have treasure in heaven.   Then come, follow me.’


While  all the people were listening, he said to his disciples,


Then he said to them all, ‘If anyone wants to follow after   me, let him deny himself,   take up his cross daily,   and follow me.


My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.


Carrying  the cross by himself,  he went out to what is called Place of the Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha.


strengthening the  disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith  and by telling them, ‘It is necessary to go through many hardships  to enter the kingdom of God.’


For we know that our old self  , was crucified with him  so that the body ruled by sin  might be rendered powerless,  so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,


and if children, also heirs   #– #heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ #– #if indeed we suffer with him  so that we may also be glorified with him.


I face death every day,  as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord.


Therefore, if food causes my brother or sister to fall, I will never again eat meat,  so that I won’t cause my brother or sister to fall.


Although I am free from all and not anyone’s slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win  more people.


I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body,  I live by faith in the Son of God,  who loved  me  and gave himself  for me.


Now those who belong to Christ Jesus  have crucified the flesh  with its passions and desires.


But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.


My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings,  being conformed to his death,


But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.


Now I rejoice in my sufferings  for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for his body,  that is, the church.


Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,  lust,  evil desire, and greed,  which is idolatry.


For we hear that there are some among you who are idle. They are not busy but busybodies.


instructing us to deny godlessness  and worldly lusts  and to live in a sensible, righteous,  and godly  way in the present age,


Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace.


Therefore, since Christ suffered  in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding   #– #because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished  with sin   #– #


Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ,  so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed.


since I know that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has indeed made clear to me.


This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life  for us.  We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.


Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil   is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days.   Be faithful to the point of death,   and I will give you the crown   of life.
