For I have heard the gossip of many people, ‘Terror is on every side! Report him; let’s report him! ’ Everyone I trusted  watches for my fall. ‘Perhaps he will be deceived so that we might prevail against him and take our vengeance on him.’


The administrators and satraps, therefore, kept trying to find a charge against Daniel  regarding the kingdom. But they could find no charge or corruption,  for he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him.


There he saw a man who had a shrivelled hand, and in order to accuse him they asked him, ‘Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath? ’


He told the man with the shrivelled hand, ‘Stand before us.’


One Sabbath, when he went in to eat  at the house of one of the leading Pharisees,  they were watching him closely.


They  watched closely  and sent spies  who pretended to be righteous,  so that they could catch him in what he said,  to hand him  over to the governor’s  rule and authority.


The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely,  to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.


They asked this to trap him,  in order that they might have evidence to accuse him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger.


Some of the Pharisees said, ‘This man is not from God,  because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.’ But others were saying, ‘How can a sinful man  perform such signs? ’ And there was a division  among them.
