When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed to the ground before the Lord.


They answered, ‘Your servant our father is well. He is still alive.’ And they knelt low and paid homage to him.


But I will leave seven thousand in Israel   #– #every knee that has not bowed to Baal  and every mouth that has not kissed him.’


Would it go well if he examined you? Could you deceive him as you would deceive a man?


By myself I have sworn; truth has gone from my mouth, a word that will not be revoked: Every knee will bow  to me, every tongue will swear allegiance.


This is what the  Lord, the Redeemer  of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people,  , to a servant of rulers: ‘Kings will see, princes will stand up, and they  will all bow down because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel   #– #and he has chosen you.’


I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard. I did not hide my face from scorn and spitting.


Just as many were appalled at you   – his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being –


Now, daughter who is under attack, you slash yourself in grief; a siege is set against us! They are striking the judge  of Israel on the cheek with a rod.


Then they spat on him, took the staff, and kept hitting him on the head.


and they will mock him, spit on him, flog   him, and kill him, and he will rise   after three days.’


Then some began to spit on him, to blindfold him, and to beat him, saying, ‘Prophesy! ’  The temple servants  also took him and slapped him.


And they began to salute him, ‘Hail,  king  of the Jews! ’


After they had mocked  him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his clothes on him. They led him out to crucify him.


‘Elijah does come first and restores   all things,’   he replied. ‘Why then is it written   that the Son of Man must suffer   many things and be treated with contempt?


The men who were holding Jesus started mocking and beating him.


Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated him with contempt, mocked  him, dressed him in bright clothing,  and sent him back to Pilate.


The soldiers also mocked him. They came offering him sour wine


But what was God’s answer to him? I have left seven thousand for myself who have not bowed down to Baal.   ,


so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow   – in heaven  and on earth and under the earth   –


Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace.
