He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.

While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, ‘Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of him.’

‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,’ he said. ‘What’s that to us? ’ they said. ‘See to it yourself! ’

When the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, ‘Truly this man was the Son of God! ’

Again they shouted, ‘Crucify him! ’

Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

but they kept shouting, ‘Crucify! Crucify him! ’

Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, ‘I find no grounds  for charging this man.’

We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.’

When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify  God, saying, ‘This man really was righteous! ’

‘What is truth? ’ said Pilate. After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, ‘I find no grounds  for charging him.

When the chief priests and the temple servants  saw him, they shouted, ‘Crucify! Crucify! ’ Pilate responded, ‘Take him and crucify him yourselves, since I find no grounds for charging him.’

Though they found no grounds for the death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him killed.

But when they recognised that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours, ‘Great is Artemis of the Ephesians! ’

For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

but with the precious blood of Christ,  like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb.
