‘If he hates  and divorces his wife,’  says the Lord God of Israel, ‘he  covers his garment with injustice,’  says the Lord of Armies. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully,  and do not act treacherously.


Then the disciples came up and told him, ‘Do you know that the Pharisees took offence when they heard what you said? ’


The Pharisees and Sadducees approached,  and tested him, asking him to show them a sign from heaven.


Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds? ’


And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test him:


‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you don’t go in, and you don’t allow those entering to go in.   ,


But the Pharisees said, ‘He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons.’


He  set out from there and went to the region of Judea  and across the Jordan.  Then crowds converged on him again, and as was his custom he taught  them again.


He replied to them, ‘What did Moses   command you? ’


The  Pharisees  came and began to argue with him, demanding of him a sign  from heaven  to test  him.


Then  he gave them strict orders: ‘Watch out! Beware of the leaven   , of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.’


But the Lord said to him, ‘Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed   and evil.


The Pharisees, who were lovers of money,  were listening to all these things and scoffing  at him.


But the Pharisees and their scribes  were complaining to his disciples, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? ’


The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely,  to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.


But since the Pharisees and experts in the law  had not been baptised by him, they rejected the plan of God for themselves.  )


So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin  and were saying, ‘What are we going to do since this man is doing many signs?


The chief priests  and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it so that they could arrest him.


The Pharisees  heard the crowd murmuring these things about him, and so the chief priests  and the Pharisees sent servants  to arrest him.


Have any of the rulers  or Pharisees believed in him?


They asked this to trap him,  in order that they might have evidence to accuse him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger.


Let us not test Christ as some of them did  and were destroyed by snakes.
