David feared the Lord that day and said, ‘How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me? ’


She said to Elijah, ‘Man of God,  what do you have against me?  Have you come to call attention to my iniquity  so that my son is put to death? ’


I am so insignificant. How can I answer you? I place my hand over my mouth.


‘You speak to us, and we will listen,’ they said to Moses, ‘but don’t let God speak to us, or we will die.’


Then I said: Woe is me,  for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Armies.


When the disciples  heard this, they fell face down and were terrified.


Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshipped him.  Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.


‘Lord,’ the centurion replied, ‘I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.


So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.


For he and all those with him were amazed  at the catch of fish they had taken,


As soon as Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet  and told him, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died! ’


For now we see only a reflection  as in a mirror, but then face to face.  Now I know in part, but then I will know fully,  as I am fully known.


When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man.  He laid his right hand on me and said, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am the First and the Last,


‘We’re certainly going to die,’ he said to his wife, ‘because we have seen God! ’


The people of Beth-shemesh asked, ‘Who is able to stand in the presence of the Lord this holy God?  To whom should the ark go from here? ’
