While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, ‘Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of him.’


Pilate said to them, ‘Why? What has he done wrong? ’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Crucify him! ’


A third time he said to them, ‘Why? What has this man done wrong?  I have found in him no grounds  for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have him whipped and then release him.’


‘What is truth? ’ said Pilate. After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, ‘I find no grounds  for charging him.


I found that he had not done anything deserving of death, but when he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.


The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors,  has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate,  though he had decided to release him.


For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.


but with the precious blood of Christ,  like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb.


He did not commit sin,  and no deceit   was found in his mouth;   ,


For Christ also suffered  for sins once for all,  the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God.  He was put to death in the flesh  , but made alive by the Spirit,
