Pilate said to them, ‘Why? What has he done wrong? ’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Crucify him! ’


The  people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing:  ‘He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One! ’


and how our chief priests and leaders  handed him over to be sentenced to death,  and they crucified him.


Nevertheless, many did believe in him even among the rulers,  but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be banned from the synagogue.


‘What is truth? ’ said Pilate. After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, ‘I find no grounds  for charging him.


Pilate went outside again and said to them, ‘Look, I’m bringing him out to you to let you know I find no grounds  for charging him.’


There was a man from the Pharisees  named Nicodemus,  a ruler  of the Jews.


Yet, look, he’s speaking publicly and they’re saying nothing to him. Can it be true that the authorities  know he is the Messiah?


Have any of the rulers  or Pharisees believed in him?


Since the residents of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognise him or the sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, they have fulfilled their words by condemning him.


‘And now, brothers and sisters, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your leaders also did.


The next day, their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem
