At that moment one of those with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword. He struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his ear.


Then he said to them, ‘But now, whoever has a money-bag should take it, and also a travelling bag. And whoever doesn’t have a sword should sell his robe and buy one.


When those around him saw what was going to happen, they asked, ‘Lord, should we strike with the sword? ’


‘My kingdom   is not of this world,’ said Jesus. ‘If my kingdom were of this world,   my servants   would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is,   my kingdom is not from here.’


But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled  and put on the armour  of faith and love, and a helmet  of the hope of salvation.


Resist him,  firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
