As these men were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?


In those days John the Baptist came,  preaching in the wilderness of Judea


For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer.  He will be filled with the Holy Spirit  while still in his mother’s womb.


The boy grew up and became strong, filled with wisdom, and God’s grace was on him.


And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and with people.


I didn’t know him,  but I came baptising with water so that he might be revealed  to Israel.’


For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating through the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.


The Lord paid attention to Hannah’s need,  and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.
