For a sound of lamentation is heard from Zion: How devastated we are. We are greatly ashamed, for we have abandoned the land; our dwellings have been torn down.


‘ “This is what the Lord God says: Because some are saying to you, ‘You devour people and deprive your nation of children,’


‘Son of man, while the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it with their conduct and actions.  Their behaviour before me was like menstrual impurity.


The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its iniquity, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants.


For the people who were in the land prior to you have committed all these detestable acts, and the land has become defiled.


Any person who does any of these detestable practices is to be cut off from his people.


‘You are to keep all my statutes and all my ordinances, and do them, so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not vomit you out.


For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labour pains  until now.


So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit   you out of my mouth.
