Amplified Bible - Classic Edition

19 But Aaron said to Moses, Behold, this very day in which they have [obediently] offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord, such [terrible calamities] have befallen me [and them]! If I [and they] had eaten the most holy sin offering today [humbled as we have been by the sin of our kinsmen and God's judgment upon them], would it have been acceptable in the sight of the Lord? [Hos. 9:4.]

Leviticus 10:19
17 Tagairtí Cros

‘What are all your sacrifices to me? ’ asks the Lord. ‘I have had enough of burnt offerings and rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I have no desire for the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.

If they fast, I will not hear their cry of despair. If they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. Rather, I will finish them off by sword, famine, and plague.’

What use to me is frankincense from Sheba or sweet cane  from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me.

They will not pour out their wine offerings to the  Lord, and their sacrifices will not please him. Their food will be like the bread of mourners; all who eat it become defiled. For their bread will be for their appetites alone; it will not enter the house of the  Lord.

When Moses heard this, it was acceptable to him.

Then he slaughtered the burnt offering. Aaron’s sons brought him the blood, and he splattered it on all sides of the altar.

So Aaron approached the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself.

‘I wish one of you would shut the temple doors,  so that you would no longer kindle a useless fire on my altar!  I am not pleased with you,’ says the Lord of Armies, ‘and I will accept  no offering from your hands.

You also say, “Look, what a nuisance! ” And you scorn  it,’  , says the Lord of Armies. ‘You bring stolen,  , lame, or sick animals. You bring this as an offering! Am I to accept that from your hands? ’ asks the Lord.

This is another thing you do. You are covering the Lord’s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning,  because he no longer respects your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.

You will eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice with your household in everything you do,  because the Lord your God has blessed you.

I have not eaten any of it while in mourning, or removed any of it while unclean, or offered any of it for the dead.  I have obeyed the Lord my God; I have done all you commanded me.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

He doesn’t need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do #– #first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all time when he offered himself.

The Holy Spirit was making it clear that the way into the most holy place had not yet been disclosed while the first tabernacle was still standing.
